| Taylor Hutton Height: 5’4 Hometown: Whitehorse, YK Languages: English Occupation: Flight Attendant Taylor Hawkes was born and raised in Kelowna, British Columbia. At age 21, she moved to Whitehorse, Yukon to work as a Flight Attendant. Her long-term goal is to become an Art Therapist so she can help young children and youth cope, heal, and process through the use of art. Whether it be gymnastics, learning a new instrument, or moving overseas for six months to attend Capernwray Bible College in England, Taylor has never shied away from a challenge. While at Capernwray she was able to meet new people from around the world as well as deepen her knowledge of the bible. In high school she was in the Lady of the Lake regional pageant. She was able to learn some life skills such as changing a tire and how to defend herself. She was also able to practice her public speaking skills during her speech about a historic building in Kelowna. All of these challenges helped shape her into the confident woman that she is. Volunteer work has been an important part of Taylor’s life. There are two examples that stand out for her. The first were the two trips she was able to take to Hermosillo, Mexico to help renovate a local church with her youth group. During her time there she helped decorate and repaint the church as well as build a playground for the children. During her time spent with the locals Taylor was excited to be able to learn some Spanish phrases that enabled her to learn more about their culture. The second is the many summers she spent at Gardom Lake Bible Camp as both a media tech and cabin leader. She felt fulfilled by the ability to be able to mentor and support the many young girls in her cabin throughout the summers. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? | Veronica Deen (no esta + participando.) Height: 5’9 Hometown: Kingston, ON Languages: English Occupation: No Heart Hungry CEO/National Model Veronica Deen is a 24-year-old aspiring model and beauty queen who is representing Kingston in the Miss Universe Canada pageant this year. Apart from her admirable beauty and stunning physique, Veronica is highly recognized for her outstanding passion for humanitarian service and youth empowerment. She believes that every young person deserves to have access to quality education and resources to help them pursue their goals and reach their full potential. When Veronica isn’t working towards her mission to empower youth, she indulges in her other interests, such as feather fan burlesque, cooking, and even hunting. Her love for these activities has helped her to maintain a balanced and well-rounded lifestyle, and has also given her the chance to showcase her creative and artistic side. Veronica has always had a keen eye for detail, and her perfectionism has driven her to accomplish her goals successfully and with a passion for excellence. Veronica’s love and dedication to her community is undeniable and she has demonstrated this through her continuous involvement in various fundraising and charity events for the Kingston Community. Her compassion and caring nature have made her a role model to many, and she hopes to use her success in the Miss Universe Canada pageant to further her advocacy for empowering and educating young people all over the world. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? My passion for feather fan burlesque began when I attended a burlesque show in Waterloo during my undergraduate studies. I was immediately mesmerized by the music, costumes, and glamour of the performance, but especially by the feather fans. I started taking classes soon after, and I developed a love for the art form grew from there. I love the way the fans move when they are twirled, the sense of power and grace it gives me, and the confidence that comes from mastering a new trick. Beyond that, feather fan burlesque has become a way for me to express myself creatively and authentically no matter my mood, I speak through the music and my body. I can explore different themes, ideas, and characters through fan choreography, and I love how it challenges me both mentally and physically. I take my fitness seriously too. I wasn’t always so fit, however. At one point in my life, I weighed 200 pounds, but I made the decision to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle not just for physical health but my mental health. Now, I work out regularly, choosing a mix of strength training, cardio, and dance to keep my body strong and healthy, and all in pink glittery high heels!!! I know firsthand the amazing benefits that come from taking care of your body, and I encourage others to do the same. When I’m not practicing feather fan burlesque and working on my fitness, I enjoy soaking up the sun and relaxing. This downtime is essential for my creativity and mental wellbeing. You might find me lounging watching the beautiful lake front of lake Ontario, sketching dream clothing pieces that I hope to one day bring to life, or simply taking a leisurely walk through my beloved Kingston. For me, it’s important to take time to indulge in what makes me happy outside of my professional and personal responsibilities. At the end of the day, one of my favourite ways to unwind is with a big luxurious bubble bath and a cup of hot chocolate with a mountain of whipped cream. It’s a simple indulgence that helps me relax and recharge for the next day. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) Culinary skills Equestrian show jumping and riding Burlesque dance Ballet dance Pole fitness Guitar playing Yodeling Singing Waltz dance PSW (Personal Support Worker) certification PAL (Possession and Acquisition License) Hunting and wildlife license training Public speaking My diverse training and talents are a testament to my curiosity and drive to explore and learn. I understand that in order to be a well-rounded person, it’s essential to cultivate skills that are both practical and creative. By expanding my knowledge and honing my abilities in areas like equestrian show jumping and ballet dancing, I have learned the importance of discipline, focus, and hard work. And in areas like burlesque and pole fitness, I have been able to express my creativity and build confidence in her body. With my public speaking skills, I am able to inspire and lead others in the community. I strive to embody the idea that there’s no limit to what a person can achieve when they put their mind to it. In what sports, if any, have you participated? Football (American) Basketball Rugby Volleyball Tennis Watching hockey Swimming I have always had a lifelong love of sports, and I’ve participated in many different games throughout my life. From being a quarterback in football to playing power forward in basketball to scumming down in rugby, I’ve experienced the camaraderie, strategy, and joy that come with team sports. However, my BIG love of sports is hockey! Although I was never taught to skate properly, I absolutely love to watch hockey! Hockey has a significant place in my heart as I grew up with my grandfather taking me to many Kingston Frontenac games but also sharing his love of the Montreal Canadiens with me. To this day, I have quite the wardrobe of Habs merchandise. While my sports background has been varied, my love of competition, physical fitness, and teamwork is a constant theme. I understand the importance of pushing myself and my teammates to be the best they can be, while also working together for a common goal. And while I haver never played hockey on the ice myself, my passion for the sport is unwavering. I’m always up for a discussion about the latest hockey news and regularly cheers on my favourite team of the HABS and Kingston Frontenacs. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? One person, other than my parents, who has had the most influence on my life would be my grandmother. Although she is not technically my mother, she holds a special place in my heart and has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. My grandmother taught me the value of the dollar, the importance of knowing how to cook, how to ride a horse while being safe around such a big animal and how to appreciate and care for nature. She instilled in me so many life skills that the list could go on forever. What stands out to me the most about my grandmother is her undying strength and love, she taught me to spread kindness wherever I go, to always leave a little sparkle wherever I go. She also taught me that in a world that often feels like it’s moving too fast, it’s important to slow down and bake some muffins. I am forever grateful for the many life lessons that my grandmother and grand father has instilled in me and will always keep them close to my heart. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest accomplishment would have to be graduating high school. It may not seem like a big deal but when the stack is against you, it’s a big deal. It was a significant milestone for me, as my own mother didn’t have the opportunity to complete her education as well as many others in the family. However, I faced numerous obstacles along the way that almost prevented her from graduating with my peers as planned. As an honor roll student, and my constant involvement in school events and being a student council member, I worked diligently throughout my high school days to get onto her graduation stage But, a month and a half before graduation, I was brought to the office and found out that I wouldn’t be able to walk the stage due to a missing credit. Even though nobody was aware of the missing credit, it threatened to shatter my chances of attaining my diploma and starting Culinary School Yet, my sheer determination and drive were a testament to my character, during this time. I did a massive booklet course on top of my studies, which was quite a challenge, as I was no longer living at home. Standing on my own two feet, I pursued my goals with passion and vigor. Ultimately, by tapping into my inner strength and working tirelessly, I was able to walk across that stage with my head held high and receive my diploma. This great achievement fills me with immense pride and serves as a reminder that with resilience, perseverance, and passionate drive, anything is possible no matter how high the deck is stacked. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? One of the most interesting and unique thing about me is that I have lived with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), a hormonal disorder affecting women, since the age of 19. It’s a condition that’s not often talked about, yet, which is shocking when it affects a significant number of women who don’t even realize what’s going on. PCOS’s side effects include infertility, weight gain and fluctuations, insulin resistance, and irregular periods. I was undiagnosed for three years, consistently experiencing pain in my pelvis and thyroid flaring and weight fluctuation. Unfortunately, the diagnosis came after going to the hospital for 3 years saying there was a problem. Once diagnosed, I was at the hospital monthly for almost a year and a half and having operations for the cysts that were formed from the PCOS. Feeling alone and desperate for understanding, I started advocating for women with PCOS. I raised awareness of the condition and encouraged open conversations about it. To my surprise, I wasn’t alone in this mission. many other voices joined me in breaking the silence. The amount of young women diagnosed with PCOS since the 90s is increasing, and there is a large population that is still undiagnosed and unaware. Eventually, it got so bad that, at 22, I had to undergo a Laparoscopic oophorectomy to remove my ovaries because of the number of growths. I underwent hormone therapy after that, and with more research and patients’ awareness, there are now better diagnosis tools for PCOS. Through my experience, I have became a beacon of hope and inspiration and continues to educate others on the importance of body awareness and seeking medical advice. The road was long, but I now have healthy ovaries thanks to autograph advancements and recognizes how crucial it is to speak up about one’s health. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? I have a strong career ambition, and my ultimate goal is to become the mayor of my beloved city. Beauty pageants helped me realize my love of political work, and from there, I knew my calling was to make a positive impact on my community at the head of the table. My passion for politics runs deep, and as a proud resident of Kingston, I have dreams of becoming the first female mayor to serve the community. I love my city, and the thought of being its mayor one day is an incredible career ambition. I plan to work tirelessly towards this goal by volunteering in the community, gaining experience in political fields and always keeping my ear to the ground when it comes to the voices of Kingston Alongside my career ambition, my big dream is of being a mom one day. From a young age, I showed signs of being a great caregiver and nurturer. During my parents’ divorce, I took on the role of taking care of my siblings by making lunches and being a mother figure to them. This experience sparked a love for motherhood within me and I hope to pass that on to my own children one day. I am determined to give my own children and those in the community a better world to grow up in than I did. With my ambitious spirit and fierce passion for excellence in public service, I know that I can make a difference in the lives of Kingston residents. I am ready to embrace my career goals and strives to reach new heights every day, never losing sight of the change that I hope to make in the world. What would be your “dream job” in life? My dream job is to be an international model traveling all over the world. While doing so, I also have plans to do international humanitarian work all over the world, especially in Ghana. My passion is not solely modeling, but I also want to do international humanitarian work. My dream is to work with those in need and give back to the world that has given me so much. As a person, I am very passionate about empowering people, especially those who come from a minority background or are disadvantaged in some way. I hope that my work as a model can serve as a starting point to work with many individuals and communities who are struggling around the world. My heart is drawn to places such as Ghana, where I hope to help communities so that they can achieve their dreams and aims for a better future today. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I recall my childhood as two different experiences. I lived two lives as a kid. My parents were often busy with their own things, and my mother wasn’t emotionally or mentally present as a mother. My dad, on the other hand, worked hard as a mechanic and was always on service calls, which meant I didn’t see him often. Things became tough when my parents got divorced when I was 10 years old. I had to grow up quickly and help take care of my younger sister, who was just two years old at the time. I missed school a lot that year to help out. Financially, things were difficult, and things like brand new clothes or healthy food were almost impossible to come by. This is one reason why I like to give back to places like YGK thrift and the Kingston food bank, as I grew up needing those things. Despite the difficulties I faced, I also remember happy times very happy times. When I was with my grandparents, everything was great. I felt safe and happy, and their house felt like home to me. They gave me every opportunity in life and provided me with a safe space. When I was with them, I knew I could be herself without getting into trouble. In summary, I had a difficult childhood with challenges, but I also had a safe, loving home with my grandparents, which gave me happy memories she cherishes. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. One of the most interesting jobs I have ever had was working as a Mennonite PSW in St. Jacob’s Waterloo. I loved this job because it was a unique experience and one of a kind. As a PSW, my uniform was required to be long and ankle-length, which was quite different from what I was used to. Additionally, I worked with all women, which was also a new experience for me but was an incredible One of the most interesting experiences was when I rode a horse and buggy to work one time. This is a common mode of transportation for the Mennonite community, and it gave me a true sense of the culture in which I worked. The job not only allowed me to embrace a different culture, but working with the residents was a real joy for me. I found it incredible and enlightening to learn about the Mennonite way of life and worked tirelessly to ensure the residents felt appreciated, loved, and were taken care of. Overall, it was an exciting job that left a lasting impression, on me and I learned a lot about the Mennonite lifestyle and culture. List any volunteering you have done. Countless food drives for the Kingston Food Bank. Donating out-of-season gowns to YGK Thrift for girls for prom. Making homeless care packages and distributing them in the Kingston community. Volunteering with Boys and Girls Club for their Teddy Bear Picnic. Taking part in charity hockey games such as the Teddy Bear Toss. Volunteering at the YGK Fall Fair. Spearheading the “No Heart Hungry” campaign, which involves taking bakery goods that would typically be thrown away along with some other ingredients purchased and using them to make sandwiches for the less fortunate Through my numerous volunteer works, I have shown a deep commitment to the community, especially the vulnerable members. I am passionate about helping those in need, and work to show my dedication to making the community a better place. What is your most unusual talent? I have an unusual talent for knowing historical facts. My love for learning, coupled with my inquisitive nature, has led me to gather extensive knowledge on various historical events. My passion for the 1950s stands out as one of my favorite eras, and I love everything about it, from music to fashion. However, I find the 1990s Chanel clothing particularly unique and attractive. Especially when in pink my signature color My love for history transcends any specific culture, and I enjoy learning about the history of different cultures. I am a firm believer in the saying that “those who do not learn history will repeat it,” I actively engage in learning about history to gain insight into different perspectives. My vast knowledge and love for history are not just limited to conversations with friends and family, but I actively incorporate it into my professional work as well. My passion for history is infectious while trying to make it fun, and I continue to expand my knowledge for the benefit of myself and others Where is the most interesting place you have been to? I am fortunate to have traveled to many unique and fascinating places, but the most unusual place I have visited is St. Jacob’s Waterloo. I consider it to be a one-of-a-kind place due to the Mennonite culture present there. The first thing I noticed most about the culture was seeing all of the horse and buggy parks around the city, including at a Walmart. For me, it was like living at the intersection of two chapters in history – present-day waterloo and the traditional Mennonite culture. Although my time there was brief, only two months, I felt that I gained a lot of experience. Being able to immerse myself in the Mennonite culture allowed me to appreciate the simple things in life that many people take for granted. It was a unique experience for me, one that I will cherish, as it gave me a new perspective on life. Since then, I have developed a deep appreciation for the traditions and culture of the Mennonites and has a broader worldview. I acknowledge the uniqueness and charm of St. Jacob’s Waterloo, describing it as a “special place” that I would “never forget.” What do you hope to be doing in ten years? I have a clear vision of what I plan to accomplish in the next decade, and I’m excited about making my dreams come true. In ten years, I see myself as the mayor of Kingston, a position I have been passionate about for a long time. I am committed to bringing positive change to the city by creating sustainable policies that will improve the quality of life for residents. Alongside my mayoral role, I also envision myself expanding my “No Heart Hungry” project, which is aimed at providing food to those in need. In ten years, I hope to be running the project on a larger scale, providing hot and healthy meals for more people across the Ontario not just Kingston. Another one of my ambitions is to become a pageant\youth empowerment coach. I want to help young people realize their full potential by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed. I believe in the power of mentorship and I know I can make a significant impact in young people’s lives through my experience as a pageant titleholder. I see myself as a loving mother with a beautiful family in the next decade. Although I have an ambitious career plan, I value family above everything else and desire to have a fulfilling personal life. I hope to pass on the values of love, kindness, and service to my children and help them become individuals who will make a difference in the world.

| Victoria Shin Height: 5’4 Hometown: Vancouver, BC Languages: English, Korean, French Occupation: Paralegal (Family Law) Victoria immigrated to Canada at the age of 4 with her family from South Korea. For her, life has always been one extreme to the other: growing up in two very different cultures; simultaneously being both a visible minority and part of the dominant race/ethnicity of Canada and Korea, respectively; and being surrounded by only immediate family members to being surrounded by and having access to all extended family and various networks established over generations. Experiencing life in this manner granted Victoria clarity in the importance of human connection and the ability to perceive things from various perspectives. This, in turn, nurtured Victoria’s drive to learn of and understand anything and everything in this world, realizing that this world is full of beautiful diversity that reflects surprising similarities when understood. Her drive to understand developed Victoria to be a highly persistent person, which has helped her immensely in her pursuit of legal education. Having just completed her studies on Dean’s List and entering into the legal industry as a paralegal in family law, Victoria aspires to continue further in the legal field and become a practicing lawyer, and perhaps even a judge eventually – though only time will tell. Her past work experiences as a flight attendant at Air Canada and as a rapid responder under the Canadian Red Cross’s Emergency Management department during the COVID-19 pandemic served to solidify the significance of human connection in Victoria’s mind; and taught her how to be adaptable and communicate in an engaging and comprehensible manner that is appropriately fitting for the situation. She hopes to apply what she has learned during these years to this year’s Miss Universe Canada competition. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I enjoy Yoga and Pilates. I am interested in the idea of cooking, and am working on the actual cooking part; but regardless I love (eating) good food. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends the most… and sleeping too List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) Aviation (pertinent to the role of ‘flight attendant’) First Aid & CPR Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor (aka swimming instructor) Training Acting Modeling Piano Dance (ballet & jazz) In what sports, if any, have you participated? Soccer Basketball Volleyball Swimming Figure Skating Ringette Tennis Badminton Water Polo Baseball Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? Other than my parents, one person who significantly influenced my life is one of my mom’s friends. Unfortunately she has passed away, but she was a person who could, with only one encounter, leave a lasting impression on you. That is exactly how she impacted me: I’ve only ever met her once, on one of my many visits to Korea to see my parents (they moved back to Korea when I was 17). The amount of effort and genuine interest she had for me, someone who she’s meeting for the first time, was just amazing (for lack of better words). In that one encounter she was able to make me feel so loved and special. I hope I can be someone like that, like her. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest accomplishment is the efforts that I’ve made in order to keep my family connected to each other despite the eventual conclusion of a “broken family”. My parents both being capable, good humans were not compatible with each other: rather, they brought out the worst in each other and it was not good for either one of them. In this environment, alongside an isolating immigrant experience (especially for my parents, I think), our nucleus family was all we had for a longtime. We were family; my parents were business partners; my sister and I were translators; I was advisor, friend, and sometimes the comic relief. Looking back at all the efforts I’ve made in this regard, I feel that my family dynamic would be completely different from what it is today if I did not make those efforts for my family when I was little. Those efforts made is my proudest accomplishment. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? I always express my ability to speak 3 languages as such: English is the language of my mind, Korean is the language of my blood, and French is the language of my heart. I was born into the Korean language; and I grew up and lived my life in the English language. But with the French language, I started learning French because I had a crush who was French and/or spoke French (I don’t really remember very well). I was 11 years old, and he was a lifeguard at the pool (so he was definitely a couple of years older than me). I thought he was cute, and I overheard him speaking with someone else in a language I did not understand at the time. So obviously, because he was cute and all that, I just HAD to understand what he was saying. Turns out, that language was French. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My career ambitions have always been in the direction of law. Though I’ve made some detours along the way I have successfully took my first steps into the legal field, as a paralegal. My next steps as of now is to gain experience working in the industry and wait to see if I am successful in any of my law school applications. Should I succeed in getting admission, my trajectory will be the 3 years of law school, graduation, then the bar exam. Ideally this would be the case and I will proceed in my life as such, and after accumulating years under my belt as a lawyer I would be eligible to become a judge (hopefully). During those years of practicing as a lawyer, I hope to make another detour and enter into foreign affairs. How I will become a diplomat, however, is something I have yet to figure out – I am hoping once I get further into the legal industry I will be able to obtain information on how one becomes a diplomat, and make my ‘game plan’ from there. What would be your “dream job” in life? Being a diplomat. Representing and connecting my country to the world is something that I would like to have the opportunity to do – which, now that I think about it, is something that pageantry does as well. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was raised in rural Alberta, predominantly in a small town called Drayton Valley. I really loved my childhood there, and have expressed to my parents and sister (on multiple occasions) that I think my life peaked at elementary school – that is how much I loved the house that I lived in; the neighborhood that my house was located; the big lake at the bottom of the hill behind my backyard. The community that I was able to grow up in at that time, in that place, was probably the most connected and rooted I have ever felt in my life, where I truly felt that sense of ‘home’. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. Being a flight attendant. List any volunteering you have done. Nanaimo Salvation Army (thrift store) Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary Nanaimo 7-10 Club The University of Victoria’s International Student Services department’s ‘Global Community Conversation Partner’ program (for the English language) Volunteer facilitator for the Saanich Parks’ Pulling Together volunteer program, in partnership with the University of Victoria’s ‘Project Serve Day’ What is your most unusual talent? I am able to just space out for extended periods of time. Perhaps this is my brain’s retaliation to all the thinking I’ve been putting it through, I don’t know ~ ^^ Where is the most interesting place you have been to? The night markets in Taipei, Taiwan. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? Practicing as a lawyer or working for our country as a diplomat. I would also really like to have a family of my own by then – although I am not as confident about this one because I have yet to even experience my first love! |

She moved with her family when she was four years old and has been in Canada for 14 years. Viktoriya is an 18-year-old student working to achieve her Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology at the University of Lethbridge. Viktoriya has been dancing since age 6 and has had the opportunity to share her passion with young dancers by becoming a teacher, friend, and leader. Her experience in dance pushed her to study kinesiology, specifically to work with young athletes and help them recover and prevent injuries, properly execute movements, and how to work through mental health in the sports community. Viktoriya wants to be Miss Universe Canada to show young people that they are worth so much more than the opinions of society. You are given one life and one body, you should love who you are and not change to be accepted by others. It is the heart that shines through beauty. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I enjoy spending my time doing dance, hiking, yoga, playing piano and guitar, reading, and being outside. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I have 12 years of training in Dance in the following styles, acrobatic arts, jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, musical theatre, contemporary, and pointe. In what sports, if any, have you participated? I have participated in track and field, taekwondo, swimming, and paddle boarding. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? Selena Gomez, an actress and singer, who I have been looking up too, as a child because she is truly authentically herself, even through the hate and negativity sent in her direction she still loves who she is, when others don’t. She believes in natural beauty and being confident in who you are and that we shouldn’t change who we are to make others happy. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest personal accomplishment would be that I saved my best friend from committing suicide for many years. I was always with her in her darkest of times and helped her to overcome her thoughts and her barriers to living a normal, happy life. She is now living happily with her partner and works a stable job in Canada. After this I feel that I can help more people to a joyful life. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? I have had hip dysplasia since I was born and my family was told that I would never be able to do any sports or walk properly. That I would have one leg longer than the other so I would be dragging my leg as I walked. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My career ambition is to help athletes of all ages with injury recoveries in physiotherapy. I am studying at the University of Lethbridge to expand my knowledge on sports and athletic behaviours, movements, recoveries, and injury prevention in Kinesiology. What would be your “dream job” in life? My “dream job” in life is to help young kids fulfill their dreams no matter the physical barriers they face. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was born in Poltava, Ukraine where we lived very poorly in the lower class. My parents worked very hard but we hardly survived. They tried to give me a better life than they did so my father found a job in Canada. Since we had no money, my father took lots of mortgages to buy a ticket to Canada, and when he earned enough money at his job, he brought my mom and I to live with him when I was four years old. I was then raised in Brooks, AB. I was an only child until 9 years old when my brother was born. I had little amount of friends throughout my childhood and my parents were always working to put me into sports, so I learnt how to enjoy my own company. My parents were very strict about my behaviours and actions growing up which resulted in positive and negative outcomes. I am fortunate to have experienced so many adventures in my life whether they were good or bad. I am thankful for the opportunities I have now. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. My first job when I was very young, my neighbours would ask me to go over and feed their animals in their house while they were on vacation. They told me to climb through the pet door to get inside. I was 13 when I got my first summer job delivering newspapers on my bike to my neighbourhood. I was also a dance teacher for five years during my time in dance. I taught ages three and above, so while I was teaching I also had to help them through tantrums and any accidents that happened during the class. I had to make sure the dancers felt safe, and trusted in me to not only be there teacher but their friend and someone they can look up to. List any volunteering you have done. I was a volunteer as a dance teacher assistance, I helped sell Christmas trees to the Brooks community, I was a youth guide for an event for kids in our Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooks, and I was a volunteer for family day in an event called ‘play day’, where I had to belay at a rock climbing wall at my university for kids, teenagers and adults of all ages. I also volunteered for many different events in the Brooks community. What is your most unusual talent? My unusual talent is that I can do a belly roll or undulation like belly dancers do in their performances. I have never practiced or learned how to do it, it came naturally. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? On one of our families trips we drove to Nelson in British Columbia, and on the way there, on the east shore of Kootenay Lake, near Boswell, British Columbia, we were mesmerized by a glass house that was built entirely from 500,000 glass bottles in 1952 by David H. Brown. This was memorable because to know that David Brown had a goal and worked hard to plan and take action to create something beautiful is truly wonderful. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In ten years I would have a degree in Kinesiology and I hope to be working with young kids and athletes with injury recoveries, and the mental side of sports, as well as starting a family of my own. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? I am here because I would like to show every single girl around the world that they are worth so much more than the standards of society. Your looks are not what define you, others opinions do not define you, it is your heart that shines through your beauty. |

Moreover, I have successfully completed training in food handling, smart serve, driving school, WHMIS, emergency first aid, and CPR. In what sports, if any, have you participated? Throughout my academic career, I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to participate in many extracurricular activities and with the support and encouragement of my friends, coaches, and family, I was able to excel in the cross-country team, basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton, and track and field team. In addition to sports, I’ve also had a chance to participated in my school’s dance team. Currently, I am combining my athletic abilities and creative side to conduct in person and online yoga and fitness class, and a beginner’s dance class geared to promote healthy minds and healthy bodys on my YouTube channel. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? I have the most wonderful grandmother. I consider myself to be extremely lucky to still have my grandma living today. She has always been my biggest supporter, and she has never let me down. My grandmother loves me very much and I love her more than anything in the world. She has inspired me to be the best version of myself, to not only strive to meet my goals but to accomplish them with humility. My grandma makes me very proud of who I am, and where I come from. She is the most inspiring women to me, because despite all the stigma and barriers facing women in South Sudan, she was able to successfully complete her university and became a doctor working in the frontline assisting people in need and risking her own personal health to keep the economy and the rest of my family safe. In addition to giving back to the community, my grandmother is a huge advocate for women’s rights, and has even organized event geared to helping women become financially independent so they can help their communities grow economically. For this reason and many more, grandmother is the most influential women in my life. She is the true definition of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? I am proud of my personal journey because through my journey I have been able to inspire and empower young people in my community to reach their full potential and to also be an active member in the society. With the help of the Rossini Girls Group Home and Children’s Aid Society, I was able to secure my own apartment at the age of sixteen and a full-time employment at Adao Essence hair salon, and an international modeling career in Toronto, Ontario. Despite all the odds that were put against me, I was still able to rise while being my true and authentic self. Additionally, my second proudest personal accomplishment, was getting accepted into George Brown College to further my studies. Being accepted into college proved to me that through hard work, determination, and discipline, one can accomplish anything that they set their mind to. Moreover, I spoke to 240 students at the St. Clair Center for the Arts. This opportunity allowed me to empower students to utilizing the tools and resources accessible to them to create a more sustainable life, to work hard towards achieving their dreams and to be the best version of themselves. I am also proud to have been featured in magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. I am also very proud to say that I’ve worked with fashion designer like Victoria Beckham, Rita Vinieris, L’MOMO, Greta Constantine and more. I am also very proud of my work in The Boys tv show and all my collaborations with Lubriderm, Mackage, and the Canada Goose campaign. I am very proud of all my personal accomplishments because they made me who I am today. This is a personal achievement to me because when I was growing up, I didn’t see a lot of models that looked like me What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? I was born in Khartoum Sudan; a war-torn country. The most interesting thing that has happened to me was moving to Canada. This was especially different and interesting because it was my first time ever seeing snow and experiencing the beautiful winter scenery and wildlife of Canada. I would’ve never had the opportunities I have today if my mom did not make the brave decision to move here. I love our food, our music, our culture and the people that live here. I am very grateful that Canada took me in and gave me a home. Moveover, the one thing that sets me apart from others is that my mother is from a tribe called Shilluk and my father is from the Lotuko tribe. In my culture, “traditionally,” I will have four wedding ceremonies, and my bride price will include money, cows, sheep, and goats when I get married. To my friends, this may be interesting because their bride price does not usually include farm animals. Although, this practice may be funny to some, to my parents, it symbolizes commitment from the groom, and it upholds my tradition to the highest standard, while honouring my parents at the same time. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My career ambition is to lead a career that is meaningful. One that will make me feel fulfilled while creating a positive impact in people’s lives. At this time, I am very grateful for my modeling career because it has allowed me to share my own personal stories to inspire others to also strive to reach their full potential and to connect to people all over the world in a more personal and professional level. Moreover, I am the founder of my own cosmetic brand and my own not-for-profit organization. My not -for-profit organization donates all its proceeds to charity and is committed to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children, women, and men in terms of providing education, clothing, shelter, food, and clean water. As Miss Universe Canada, I hope to partner with the government of South Sudan to build a group home and a school for people in need and for the voiceless. With the continued love and support of my family, friends, and community, I believe that if I keep working hard and trusting in my journey that I will be able to accomplish all my goal over time. What would be your “dream job” in life? The first thing that comes to my mind is becoming Miss Universe. This opportunity is more than just a title and a crown; it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that provides women the opportunity to make their dreams come true. The first step in following my dreams and accomplishing this goal, is to believe that they can be reached. My whole purpose for competing in this pageant is to take control of my future and to work towards my goals. My intention is to inspire people around the world that their dreams can become their reality too. I hope to continue utilizing the power of my voice, to break down stereotypes and barriers affecting children and women around the world today. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was born in Omdurman Maternity Hospital in Khartoum, Sudan. I was raised by two Christian parents with a humble beginning. My father is from the Latuko tribe, and my mother is from the Shilluk ancestry. The first few years of my childhood was split between living with my mother’s side of the family in North Sudan, and living in Egypt Cairo, where I was enrolled in school full time with my brother. At home, we spoke my parent’s native language and at school we learned Arabic, English, and French. When I was nine years old, when my family and I moved to Canada, in Windsor, Ontario. Shortly after my two younger sisters were born, my family moved to Kitchener, Ontario where they now reside. I love my parents, and my grandparents. I have the outmost love and respect for them. Due to their struggles and sacrifices that they have endured and conquered, I consider myself to be extremely privileged to have the best opportunity for academic advancement, the ability to participate in many extracurricular activities, to have so many friends, and to have grown up in a safe home filled with unconditional love and support. My goal now is to do my best to make my mom and my grandmother as proud of me as I am of them. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. The most interesting or unusual job that comes to my mind would be working as an international model and actress. As a model, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with numerous fashion designers like Victoria Beckham, Rita Vinieris, and Rebekah Price. In addition to working with reputable fashion designers, I have also been published in high end magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. This opportunity has also opened many doors for me, and one of them being an acting scene in The Boys tv show and advertising campaign for Nudestix, Lubriderm, Mackage, and the Canada Goose. Modelling has provided me with the opportunity to connect with people all over the world, and the advantage of being at the forefront of the fashion and beauty industry setting the latest fashion trend and streetwear styles while traveling and working with creative and talented team. Modeling is an unusual job because I can model for the rest of my life, or adventure into becoming a model/talent agent, or even the chance to instruct my own modeling, and talent courses geared to giving young girls and boys more confidence and an opportunity to advance in their modelling Carrer as well. I worked very hard and I am very grateful that I have this opportunity. List any volunteering you have done. Aside from raising awareness, I’ve previously volunteered at a senior’s retirement home. My responsibilities included assisting seniors to and from the dining room, cutting food and at times feeding the residents at mealtime, distributing beverages to seniors, and proving encouragement through conversations and listener. This experience has allowed me to gain a new perspective on life, opportunities for strengthening my work experience, and the ability to enhance the lives of senior residents, while building friendships with the residents, other volunteers, and the staff. Other volunteering opportunities that I have had in the pass are as follows: Sick Kids Foundation Breast Cancer Society of Canada SOS Children’s Villages Old Sandwich Towne Festival Operation Smile What is your most unusual talent? I think the most unusual talent that I have is my ability to read upside down, backwards and from left to right. I discovered this ability while reading bedtime stories to my younger sisters. I find this talent to be extremely rewarding because it has improved my attention span, it helped to improve my memory lost, problem solving skills, and it also reduces my chances of developing dementia or Alzheimer’s while boosting my cognitive function. Currently, I find myself passing time by exercising my brain through various brain training games like card games, crossword puzzles, and suduko. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? Poverty does not discriminate against age or gender. This is why I believe it is our responsibility to humanity to work together to end poverty. Our responsibility is not only to help people in need survive but to also thrive in the economy. With that being said, I one of the most interesting places that I have been to this summer, is the Fred Victor’s women shelter located in Toronto, Ontario. The Fred Victor Shelter is a charitable organization dedicated to assisting people experiencing homelessness and financial insecurity by providing access to beds, access to transportation, laundry facilities, hygiene supplies, and referral to other supports and services like affordable housing, medical and legal support. It was eye-opening experience to see that domestic violence and sexual assault is the leading cause of homelessness among women, and gender-based violence is often the direct result of women fleeing from a toxic and life-threatening relationships to live in shelters. This humbling experience has not only helped me to better understand the power of my voice, and my value in my community, but it has also fueled my quest to partner with local and international government, community leaders, and families to help me give back to my community. To me, it’s not a matter of charitable donations, but justice. justice is closing the gap between the rich and the poor. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? Within ten years, I hope that I can have the opportunity to become Miss Universe Canada, and to proudly represent my beautiful country on the Miss Universe stage. To me, becoming Miss Universe is more than a title, it’s an honour, a privilege, and confirmation that dreams do come true with hard work, consistency, determination, and patience. It would mean the world to me, to go back to my country as Miss Universe, as it will enable me to make a difference in the lives of so many people. I want to be able to look back in ten years and have no regrets; to know that I’ve stayed true to myself and did everything I could to set myself up for a successful future. I believe this dream to be true because I believe dreams do come true. I am ever more inspired to go after my dreams because I believe in myself and not only that, I saw Nova Stevens with my own two eyes become Miss Universe Canada Moreover, my goal is to obtain a career that will allow me to embody myself as a successful model, actress, activist, and businesswoman focused on women’s mental health, entrepreneurship, and women empowerment. I hope to build an empire for my cosmetic brand, and in partnership with my own not-for-profit organization, I hope that I can improve the quality life of millions of people all over the world by eliminating food insecurities, and providing significant improvement in health care, access to affordable education, clean water, financial assistance, and to create opportunities for continuous economic growth. Finally, aside from accomplishing my career ambitions, I hope that I can continue to surround myself with the people I love. I hope to be happily married and to have a beautiful and healthy family of my own. To my beautiful, loving, and selfless mother, whom I love and respect so much. I would like to say, that my mother is my inspiration, motivation, and my role model. I gratefully dedicate my success to my mother Victoria Deng. I am who I am today because of my mother. I hope that I can also provide my children with endless opportunities to have a better chance in life than me, and I hope that I can reciprocate the same love, values, and traditions that’s my mother has installed in me as a child to my children. Most importantly, I hope to continue to be a great role my for my sisters, brother, and to my people and country. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? I would like to take the time to thank you for taking the time to read my story and for giving me the time and consideration to represent my country at the Miss Universe. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am for the wonderful opportunity the Miss Universe Canada organization has provided me, and for the family that I have gained throughout my journey. Thank you for providing me the opportunity to continue to gain a new sisterhood, for a chance to continue be a role model to my family, to my community and to my country. This whole experience has allowed me to grow into the woman I am today, and I am forever grateful for my platform in which, I will continue to use to empower my community and our government to work together for a better future. I would also like to sincerely thank my friends, family, and all my supporters for making my dream come true by making this whole experience possible for me and all the girls all over Canada. This opportunity has allowed me to achieve one of my greatest goals, which is to promote women’s empowerment, and to raise awareness on the issues that I believe are affecting our people, and community. I would also like to encourage anyone reading my bio to consider the opportunity to join the Miss Universe Canada sisterhood, to believe in themselves and to join the movement. Dreams do come true if you believe in yourself. It starts with you! |
