MANILA, July 18th — The Philippines is ready to host the 65th Miss Universe pageant, said Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo, after disclosing that the private sector has agreed to shoulder the cost of hosting the beauty pageant in the Philippines next year.  Teo made the announcement after her meeting with reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach at her department in Makati City.

Wurtzbach joined Teo for a brief press conference at the Department of Tourism offices before going to Malacanang Palace for their meeting with President Duterte.

Accompanying Wurtzbach and Teo were Paula Shugart (President, Miss Universe Organization), Shawn McClain (Vice President, Business Planning, Miss Universe Organization), Esther Swan (Director of Talent Development, MUO) as well as local staff from Bb. Pilipinas Organization and Wurtzbach’s manager, Jonas Gaffud.

Both Duterte and Wurtzbach celebrated the fact that they both come from Mindanao, and the beauty proceeded to have a selfie taken with the country’s biggest authority.

Now that the private sector has agreed to sponsor the estimated USD 12 million cost to stage the show, the next step is to decide when it will be held. Although Filipino authorities were planning on holding the event in May to allow them proper planning, the estimated date for the pageant is January 29th, 2017.
