What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

I have always been passionate about reading, particularly in the genres of fiction and historical fiction. “Firekeeper’s Daughter” by Angeline Boulley and “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom are among my favorite books. Recently, I decided to share my love of reading by creating a book review page on TikTok. Viewers can send me books to review, and once I have finished, I make it a point to donate them to local charities, ensuring that others can also experience the joy of reading.

In addition to nurturing my intellectual pursuits, I prioritize my physical health. Regularly attending classes at my local barre studio helps me stay fit and energized. Whenever time permits, I enthusiastically explore new sports, continuously seeking opportunities to challenge myself physically.

My interest in politics is another significant aspect of my life. I have engaged extensively in volunteering under my local Member of Parliament, allowing me to connect with diverse individuals from all walks of life. Through this firsthand experience, I have gained invaluable insights into the most pressing concerns of Canadians. I firmly believe that political engagement is essential for everyone, particularly women, and it is crucial to have informed opinions on trending local, national, and global issues.

By immersing myself in reading, fitness, and politics, I strive to lead a fulfilling and impactful life, actively contributing to society and inspiring others to do the same.

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

I possess a decade of comprehensive dance training encompassing ballet, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary styles. Furthermore, I engaged in guitar classes during my high school years and had prior experience playing the piano.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

Over the course of my life, I have actively engaged in nine diverse sports, including volleyball, basketball, softball, badminton, lacrosse, soccer, Jiu-jitsu, dance, and roller derby. Each sport has not only imparted invaluable lessons in teamwork, friendship, and discipline but also propelled me to constantly strive for physical excellence, shaping me into a stronger and more determined individual.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

I would like to express my profound admiration for Mrs. Peters, my creative writing teacher during high school. She embodied a unique blend of intelligence, femininity, and exuberance that captivated everyone in her presence. Mrs. Peters’ zest for life was infectious, and her unwavering positivity uplifted the spirits of those around her. She not only fostered my personal passion for writing but also nurtured the creative spark within each of her students. Inspired by her vibrant personality, I aspire to emulate her effervescence, optimism, and compassion in all aspects of my life.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

My most significant personal achievement is securing university admission. Upon immigrating to Canada, my mother tirelessly worked multiple jobs, saving every spare penny to ensure I had the opportunity to pursue higher education. Determined to make the most of this chance, I dedicated myself to my studies and successfully graduated high school with a remarkable GPA of 97 percent. Today, I take immense pride in not only becoming a woman in the field of engineering but also being the first in my family on the road to attaining a bachelor’s degree.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

One impactful experience occurred when I encountered a homeless man while entering a store. Despite being ignored by passersby, he persisted in opening the door for others and offering them blessings. Moved by his unwavering kindness, I approached him and, after a warm conversation, decided to offer him some cash. The gratitude in his eyes filled my heart with a sense of fulfillment. As I continued with my day, a witness to the exchange approached me, introducing himself as a local business owner. He expressed admiration for acts of kindness and handed me his business card, encouraging me to choose anything from his online store as a token of appreciation. Although I didn’t reach out, this experience served as a powerful reminder of the transformative impact that small acts of kindness can have, creating ripples of positivity in our world.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

I am driven by a strong ambition to excel as a female in the field of environmental engineering and to inspire other women to join this dynamic and impactful profession. With a deep-rooted passion for sustainability, I am dedicated to leveraging my knowledge and skills to address pressing environmental challenges. I aspire to be at the forefront of innovative solutions that promote sustainability and mitigate the impact of human activities on our planet. By breaking barriers and shattering stereotypes, I aim to empower and encourage more women to embrace careers in STEM, particularly in the environmental engineering domain. Through my journey, I hope to ignite a spark of inspiration that fuels a collective movement towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

My ultimate aspiration is to establish and manage my own engineering firm, while simultaneously documenting my personal journey as a trailblazing woman in the engineering field through social media. Engineering has always captivated me, yet I concealed this passion for years, doubting my intelligence and abilities. It is my profound desire to empower every woman, irrespective of her chosen path, to recognize her innate brilliance, capability, and beauty. I firmly believe that every dream is attainable, and every degree can be pursued without compromising an ounce of femininity.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was born in the Cherkassy region of Ukraine and spent my early years there until the age of 5 when my family relocated to Canada. Our new home was a charming small town called Estevan, where we were fortunate to have wonderful neighbors, a retired couple who warmly embraced me as their adopted grand-daughter. They played an integral role in my upbringing, imparting valuable skills such as baking, sewing, reading, and the English language. Meanwhile, my mother displayed unwavering dedication throughout my childhood, working tirelessly with three jobs to provide me with the best possible upbringing and save for my future education. She served as my unwavering source of encouragement, instilling in me the virtues of love, determination, hard work, and above all, kindness and compassion. Her selflessness defined my childhood, and I am forever grateful for the nurturing environment she created.

The fast-paced nature of the job pushed me to the limits, challenging my ability to effectively manage stress. It was an exhilarating experience that demanded quick thinking, unwavering focus, and an unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality results.

Engaged with the Junior Quota Club, actively participating in philanthropic endeavors to address pressing community needs.
Supported the Salvation Army food bank and organized impactful food drives to combat food insecurity and promote well-being in our community.
What is your most unusual talent?

I possess a remarkable and somewhat extraordinary talent for name recall. It’s a gift that allows me to etch your name in my memory even if we crossed paths merely once at an event years ago.

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

Mexico is undeniably the most captivating destination I have had the pleasure of exploring. Venturing beyond the confines of tourist resorts and immersing myself in the authentic lives of the Mexican people has been a transformative experience. Amidst the prevailing poverty and challenges, I discovered a profound warmth and generosity within the local communities. Their unwavering kindness and genuine hospitality left an indelible mark on my heart. This eye-opening encounter instilled within me a deep sense of gratitude for the blessings in my own life, and a renewed belief in the inherent goodness that permeates our world.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In the next decade, my aspirations center around achieving personal and professional milestones. I envision a future where I have established a harmonious family, embraced by the joyful sounds of little feet and surrounded by the love of a supportive husband. Simultaneously, I aim to lead a flourishing engineering firm, making significant contributions within the field. Additionally, I harbor a passionate dream of becoming a renowned author, publishing a book that resonates with readers and secures a place on the bestseller lists. Moreover, attaining the esteemed title of Miss Universe Canada would not only be a cherished accolade but also a platform to amplify my endeavors and inspire others along the way.

Dominique was also the co-manager of Défilé Luna, who raised more than 30,000$ for Opération Enfant Soleil throughout 4 years. She has since represented Canada internationally at the 2022 Reinado del Café in Colombia, and most recently placed first runner up at World Miss University in South Korea; where she also walked away with the most prizes (Miss Intelligence, Miss Sincerity and Miss Popularity). She is also the International Youth Ambassador for the Worlds Bay and will be doing a conference in South Korea next October to bring awareness around sustainability and how we can manage our natural resources more responsibly.

Dominique hopes to be the next Miss Universe Canada so she can continue to spread her positivity, volunteerism and advocate for equal rights, especially for individuals facing barriers. Dominique believes every person has the potential to be great, but society creates barriers to their success. That’s why with her platform Dominique wants to give a fair chance to everyone to reach their fullest potential and give support to those in need.
What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

I enjoy acting, traveling and getting involved in the community in my spare time. I am the International Youth Ambassador for the Bay in the world I am also an ambassador for a nonprofit that helps women in need get first necessity products.

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

Since a young age, I have loved all sorts of performing arts. I danced for over fifteen years, and I continue to do so to express myself. Additionally, my mother taught me how to draw at a young age. In elementary school, I won a few drawing contests. I even drew my deputy Christmas card.

I have also participated in many runway and dramatic arts training. I also won the best comedian in a main role at the FTJA.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

You can find me in the gym almost everyday of the week or at the yoga studio. Besides spending most of my time dancing while doing my grocery or while cleaning my home, I started Bachata recently and it allows me to reconnect with my passion because I danced my whole life. In New Brunswick we have wonderful outdoor scenery, so I enjoyed skiing and snowboarding. I was also a softball player. I had the chance to represent Restigouche County at the Jeux de l’Acadie. I have been practicing golf for two years now. I love doing paddle board and reconnect with the nature.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

It was and still is my grandfather Pete that is the person who impacted my life the most. On Christmas Eve 1994, he asked my mother to give him the gift he always wished for and it was for a little granddaughter. In September 1995, I made my first step into this world. He is my inspiration because he was proud of all of my accomplishments.

I really look up to him, because he was a fighter. He fought in the Korean War for our country. He fought for his place on a junior hockey team for the love of one of our most popular sports. He fought for making his way as a culinary chef in Lake Louise. He fought to help my grandmother with her business and the family. He also fought against cancer.

Unfortunately, it is the only battle he didn’t win. In 2004, my inspiration lost his life to cancer, but he is and will always be my hero. I wish I could have his courage, his audacity and his charisma.

In Campbellton, New Brunswick everybody knew my grandfather Pete. One day, I hope everybody knows me in a positive way like my grandfather who used to be an active member of the community.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

Everyone-whether that be young children or grown adults, sometimes need to apologize. The most important part is being aware of the reason why, as an individual, we apologize. We as Canadians apologize for too many things. We are recognized worldwide for it. I used to apologize for just being myself, that is why one of my proudest accomplishment as been to write a kids picture book to make sure the next generation of leaders are not apologizing for being themselves. This book actually aims to demonstrate that you do not always need to apologize for everything.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

In 2012, I was chosen to receive the Vimy Pilgrimage Award. This award recognizes the actions of young people who are dedicated to the betterment of society by demonstrating an outstanding commitment to volunteer work through positive contributions, notable deeds, or bravery that benefits their peers, school, community, and province.

The Vimy Pilgrimage Award consists of a fully funded week-long educational program in Belgium and France to study Canada’s tremendous First World War contribution.

The First World War is an important, strategic moment in Canadian history and this experience helped me foster a greater appreciation for the sacrifices made for our freedom. It was a special moment because my greatest inspiration, my grandfather, was also a veteran.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

I strive to make everyone no matter their background included and safe in the workplace. I believe the strength of our Canadian culture lies in our differences and we need to embrace those differences because that is what sets us apart as a nation. As a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist, I fight daily to make the workplace a safer and fairer environment for all, and specifically women no matter their religious beliefs, skin color or social status. I want to make job opportunities accessible for everyone.

I want to be known for my leadership, and give women the confidence they need to reach positions they wouldn’t have the courage to apply for. I want every minority to be unapologetically confident so they can get that job they always dreamed of.

I do concrete action to reach that goal. I am involve in charity work and influence coworkers to do the same. I help immigrant woman with their resume to get the job they really deserve. I change lives every year by helping people find their career path and that is the biggest gift anyone could give me seeing people embracing their true authentic self.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

Being Miss Universe Canada would be the epitome of what I would call my Dream Job in life. I am ready to dedicate my time and energy to be Miss Universe Canada and handle those responsibilities.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I grew up in Campbellton, New Brunswick. Being from a small town you’re raised not just by your parents but by your whole community. My parents both have successful careers and have always shared the importance of education to my older brother and I.

Besides having hardworking parents, they were also very supportive too. They gave us the opportunity to follow our desires and to be part of any sports or any extracurricular activities that we wanted. Being committed to such activities taught me essential life skills like time management, teamwork and discipline.

I consider myself lucky because I never missed out on anything, but my parents raised me to be grateful about it every day and to help those who didn’t have the same opportunities as I did.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

In 2011, I traveled to Louisiana to promote bilingualism at the Acadian Congress. Did you know that New-Brunswick is the only province that is officially bilingual in Canada? I cherished this opportunity to relate to my Acadian roots and to bring awareness to bilingualism.

In 2017, I had the opportunity to represent the Quebec Winter Carnaval in Paris. My team and I did presentations in travel agencies to promote the pleasure of the snow in France. We promoted Canadian maple syrup products at a booth in the job fair and we also visited the Canadian Embassy. It was great to share our history and our love for winter.
What is your most unusual talent?

To be unapologetically confident and inspiring people to be too.

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

I have travel a lot but no place is peaceful and welcoming like Canada. You know what they say ? There is no place like home. That’s why I cherish every chance that I get to travel around our country. We have the longest coastline, we have more lakes than any other country and our National Parks are a true natural wonder. In Canada, we also accept immigrants with open arms and that’s why our people is one of our biggest treasure.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In ten years, I envision myself continuing to share my passion for philanthropy with my surroundings and create a scholarship for girls so they have the opportunity to compete in a pageant or just follow their dreams. I can see myself raising a family and continue traveling the world.

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

Thank you for taking the time to read my bio. I am so grateful for this opportunity, and I will ensure to remember the chance I have had throughout all this journey.

Merci d’avoir pris le temps de lire ma biographie. Je suis très reconnaissante de cette opportunité et je vais m’assurer d’en être consciente tout au long de l’aventure.

Additionally, I had amazing experiences of supporting small businesses, such as modelling for Genette Mujar – also known as Gnetz Designs, at Vancouver’s Pista Ng Bayan and the Filipino Heritage Gala.

I am honoured to have had the opportunity to raise our flag and represent approximately 97 million Filipino’s in Canada. My success with the title came with valuable lessons that went way beyond the crown.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

I was introduced to traveling at the young age of 2! I have visited nine different countries so far, and I want to build that list to visit under-developed communities in order to use my platform and be the voice for those in need. I am driven to end poverty and I want to inspire children to dream big, because nothing is impossible. My family instilled the importance of interpersonal relationships and I want to apply that to my humanitarian work worldwide.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

My ultimate career ambition is to build a business empire from the ground up. I aspire to be an award- winning actor and launch several businesses that support multiple non-profit organizations such as SOS Children’s Villages, UNICEF and Make-A-Wish. To ensure success, I believe that ideas must be developed one at a time. Currently, my acting journey is on hiatus as my top priority is to earn the title of Miss Universe Canada. However, I am saving money in order to attend more classes and obtain more certifications that will help my journey through the entertainment industry later on.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

I would love to work as a full-time actor while pursuing my humanitarian advocacies worldwide. Actors are agents of change. A film, a piece of theatre, music, or a book can make a difference and inspire others to step out of their comfort zone and change the world. Dramatic arts taught me to take the risk and follow my purpose, and my purpose is to create and impact others through art and emotion.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I am thankful to have been born and raised in Burnaby, British Columbia. I grew up in a small, loving home with my mom, dad, and older sister. My parents are the ones who instilled leadership within me and demonstrated that anyone can make a difference. Newly immigrated to Canada, they were one of the first families to promote composting in the City of Burnaby and made it onto the front cover of our local newspaper. Learning this, I was eager to make a change and at the young age of 6, I accompanied my mom with local community clean ups throughout my elementary years. My family stories and childhood moments have assisted with the determination of my core values of integrity, compassion, and social responsibility, and have inspired me to become a transformational leader.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

Throughout my post-secondary, I worked as a part-time barista at Blenz Coffee. It took me quite a while to learn how to create latte art, as the milk had to be a specific temperature and consistency! I am proud to have dealt with several morning rushes on my own, as it gave me the acquired skills of time management, multitasking, and physical stamina. However, the best part about this job was being able to serve various types of people and practice my communication skills, as I worked at three different locations. This job definitely helped shape who I am today!
What is your most unusual talent?

I can do a really good goat impression!

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

In 2018, I travelled throughout Europe with my family. The most interesting place I have experienced is Basilica at Montserrat, in Catalonia, Spain. It is a breathtaking monastery of architectural significance, and I had the opportunity to witness one of their masses and choral concerts. There is a special part in the monastery where the monks live – an area restricted to the public. This peak in Catalonia truly is a sacred location, and I cannot wait to explore more places in the world just like this!

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

I am determined to become an Academy Award-winning actor in the next ten years. A triple threat known for multiple hit projects, a model, humanitarian activist, multiple-business owner, and digital creator that is also a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. My family project of investing and building a water well to provide clean, drinking water in Silaki Island, the Philippines – will also be complete.

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

I believe that beauty comes from the heart. Once you can love yourself, that is when you can share love with others. As your next Miss Universe Canada, I promise to continue inspiring communities to bring out the best in themselves. Continuous improvement is the key to success.

I am proud of absolutely all my personal achievements that have ever been in my life. They are impossible to enumerate. From career success to family relationships. I am proud that I became a model and I was given the opportunity to work with famous photographers and see my face in magazines and fashion shows, I am proud that I don’t have bad and harmful habits, so my parents are calm and do not worry about it, I am proud that taught myself not to panic in stressful situations and quickly find solutions, and of course I am proud that by the age of 25 I can easily provide for myself and correctly allocate my budget.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

I think that uniqueness is different for everyone and for me personally, these are animals. Recently bought a snake. I grew up in the Moscow region, in a large and strong and happy family with 3 children. I am the youngest. Since childhood, I was a restless child, so I was sent to dance. I am from a wealthy family. I always got to school by car. My childhood was very strict, every day my mother picked me up from school, I ate in the car, changed clothes and went to the center for dance training. Late in the evening I returned home and so every day until about 16yo . At school, I was an outcast. I was insulted, beaten and strangled by classmates. I knew it was because I wasn’t as passionate about school and studying as I was about dancing. Since I did not have time to build relationships with classmates.

My character has different sides and I am often interested in men’s work, so I work part-time in a company where I wrap cars, glass and much more.

Emily Marston
candidatas a miss universe canada 2023. final: 19 agosto. - Página 2 QbseMOl
Height: 5’8
Hometown: Rocky View County, AB
Languages: English and Sign Language
Occupation: Project Manager

Born and raised in rural Alberta, Emily is a third generation farmer who grew up surrounded by the love of her family, and the beauty of mother nature. Her childhood was filled with lessons in self sustainability, appreciation for animals, and the importance of hard work and dedication, which inspired her to earn a degree in Environmental Management from Royal Roads University. Currently working as a project manager at the Arctic Institute of North America, she is contributing to the integration of Traditional Environmental Knowledge with scientific data, to provide food security within the Canadian Arctic.

An awarded volunteer member within her community, Emily recognized a need for the re connection between humanity and nature, and created her nonprofit organization; the MudPie Project. In partnership with the City of Airdrie, Emily is focused on allowing all community members to live healthy, affordable, and sustainable lifestyles by creating community gardens within low-income housing areas, and through environmental education as a writer for Poplar Magazine.

Determined to live life to the fullest, Emily is not afraid to get her hands in the dirt! She is focused on a healthy and active lifestyle, crediting her passion for hiking in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and weightlifting at the gym as the driving force behind a 90-pound weight loss journey. Switching between cowboy boots and high heels, She has represented Alberta South Pony Club at 10 National horseback riding competitions, carried two Rodeo Queen titles as well as the current Miss Calgary title, and continues to work as a film and television actor with ACTRA Alberta, where you can spot her in the award-winning movie Let Him Go. But above all, her heart is where her family is, and that is what she deems most important.
What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

My rural upbringing on a small Alberta farm has shaped my interests in the majesty of nature, as well as my passion for understanding the different communities and cultures, and their interactions with the environment. This passion has been the guide towards me studying environmental science, at both a personal and university level. Another deep interest of mine is the art of acting, both within theatre and film productions. Acting challenges me to expand my abilities to communicate and express life physically, emotionally, and mentally. It allows me to explore places I may never see and people I may never meet, creating a foundation of empathy in my everyday living.

I find enjoyment mainly outside and in the community. I love to ride through the fields on my farm with my horse, Marvin. I love sitting outside in the spring and the summer with a good book, and I love hiking in the Rocky Mountains with my friends. I also love the communities I find myself in and the challenges they bring. I love the challenge of pushing myself in my gym training, and the community that encourages me. But above all, the moments I treasure most are the ones spent surrounded by my family.

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

I grew up working as an actress in theatre and have recently transitioned into film and television roles. My training in acting, singing, modeling, acrobatics, gymnastics, weightlifting, English and western horseback riding, swimming, and gun shooting comes in very handy!

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

Growing up I was a national competitor in Pentathlon (fencing, shooting, swimming, running, and riding horses). I was a competitive swimmer holding a top 30 placement in Alberta, and was also a dedicated gymnast, and acrobat. As I got older, I found a love for weightlifting, which has helped me lose 90 pounds and pushed me to become the strongest version of myself. My current record is hip thrusting over 400 pounds!
As a ten-time representative at Canadian Pony Club National competitions, horseback riding has been the dominant sport in my life, allowing me to compete at Spruce Meadows (show jumping), and within the rodeo circuit (barrel racing). Riding is a sport that taught me how to accept failure gracefully, but to take that failure and learn from your mistakes.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

My grandma grew up in Great Britain and is a World War 2 survivor, single mom who raised 3 kids, and ran a successful dairy farm! She will celebrate her 94th birthday this year and does not use her age as an excuse to slow down. She is still an avid volunteer within our community and is always trying to adapt to a changing world with new trends and lessons. Growing up as a woman in the time she was born, she was limited in education and career choices, so she encouraged me to utilize every opportunity that presented itself. She influenced me to think and act in a way where I not only represented myself, but the generations of women that came before me, and the women who will follow.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

Besides a 90-pound weight loss and running a successful non-profit organization, I am incredibly proud to say that I graduated school with a diploma and a degree, with no student debt. This was due to countless social sacrifices, early mornings, and by working two or more jobs for the past nine years. In turn, it has allowed me to pay for school without taking student loans. Being motivated, organized, and determined has allowed me to accomplish this personal achievement, although my Masters may be a different story!

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

In 2022, I was admitted to the Airdrie Urgent Care with the start of epiglottitis, which is the swelling of your epiglottis. If I had been left untreated for another 24 hours, I would have suffocated to death. It was a uniquely terrifying experience once I realized the situation I was in, and to realize I could leave this earth in a moment. Having a near death experience was a has opened my eyes to the delicacy of life, and the importance of living it to the fullest!

Now on a different note, the most interesting thing about me is that I was a 2-time Rodeo Queen, representing both the City of Crossfield, and the City of Airdrie, even running for Miss Rodeo Canada. Much like a pageant, there is a public speaking and fashion show portion, however our “talent” is considered “horsemanship” where we are judged on our riding abilities on known and unknown horses. I was fortunate to travel throughout Canada and the United States attending Rodeo events and partaking in parades, as an ambassador of Canadian women and rural lifestyle.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

My career ambition is to make a successful impact in finding practical and feasible environmental sustainability goals within the country of Canada, allowing us to take a leadership role in the fight towards environmental protection. As an environmental scientist and project manager with the Arctic Institute of North America, I am working with Canadian Indigenous communities and environmental scientists to combine Traditional Environmental Knowledge (known as TEK) and environmental management and apply it to current education systems and everyday lifestyles. The environment is the element that connects us, and it is everyone’s job to protect it.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

Although I once dreamed about being a full-time actress, my true dream job would be exactly what I am doing right now! I am incredibly fortunate to have the support of my family, who supported me through my environmental science degree, and the success of my non-for-profit, The MudPie Project. Through my job at the Arctic Institute of North America and by reconnecting humanity to mother earth through The MudPie Project, I am working towards reducing poverty, improving mental health, and replenishing the environment on a national and personal level. Helping to bring our world closer together through hands in the dirt action is my dream job.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I am a third-generation Canadian farmer, growing up just north of Airdrie, Alberta. My childhood on the farm was filled with the responsibility of looking after chickens, pigs, horses, and turkeys, alongside maintaining a role in sports and education. Due to a tight financial situation growing up, most of our food was homegrown, and our clothes were handmade or sourced second hand. This isolation brought my brother and I close as siblings, but also taught us to be self sustainable, and to respect what we had been given. Rural life allows us to experience parts of earth that are only seen away from urban life, like the sunrise and sunset along the horizon and nights filled with thousands of stars. These experiences are what shaped my appreciation for our Earth, and surrounding environment. I am forever thankful for the lessons in hard work, selflessness, and the beauty of mother nature, and what my family taught me!

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

Unusual jobs I have had range from being the first one to get on an unbroke horse, to dressing up as different characters on TV shows as a background actor. The most humbling job I had was as a housekeeper, cleaning rooms at a large hotel chain. However, this job showed me firsthand, the discrimination and pay gap women of color face within the workforce and it is something I continue to raise awareness and speak out against.

List any volunteering you have done.

I have been an avid volunteer in my community since I was 14 years old, averaging 100-1,000 hours of volunteer work per year. I try to partake in any event no matter how big or how small, as to me, they are all equally important.

The grandest event I partook in was in 2020, where I was honored to be the Master of Ceremonies at the 2020 Alberta Winter Games, but in the past year I have volunteered with:

Airdrie Festival of Lights
Girl Guides of Canada
Rocky View School Division
Boys and Girls Club of Alberta
Alberta SPCA
Nose Creek Theater Company
Rocky View Farm School
and many more!
The largest, and ongoing volunteer effort I have made is through my non-for-profit organization “The Mud Pie Project” where we focus on re-connecting humans to nature through environmental education and hands in the dirt actions. Currently, we have partnered with the City of Airdrie, and TruEarth to bring new community gardens within low-income housing areas and increase pollinator production. We have successfully created “Hand in the Dirt” education to the Rocky View School system, household composting systems and working on reducing, reusing, and recycling within Airdrie.

What is your most unusual talent?

Growing up as a pentathlete I had to be talented at 5 sports. Shooting pellet guns and rifles, horseback riding in the English discipline, running and swimming, however the most usual talent that I developed would be sword fighting, also known as fencing. Not quite the same as an old-fashioned duel, it still requires you to be light on your feet, and earn points by stabbing your duel partner with your sword.

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

I am fortunate to have traveled to Greece, Italy, and England, however the most interesting place I have been to is right here in Canada! Being an avid hiker, I get to experience a different environment every time I reach a new mountain peak. To stand on top of a mountain 2000 feet in elevation and observe what seems to be a sea of mountains surrounding you is an unforgettable, and almost unearthly experience. While hiking The Middle Sister I saw waterfalls, rockslides and even crossed a Grizzly Bear mom and her cub! No two visits to the Rocky Mountains have been the same, not to mention no photo can do justice to the views.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In ten years, I hope to be running a fully self sustainable farm that provides fresh food to low-income families, which I hope to accomplish through The MudPie Project. I would love to get back into competitive show jumping and once again, own my own horse. As a career woman, I am aiming to be working in the provincial government improving environmental policies and accountable actions within the province of Alberta. Ultimately though, in ten years I hope to be happy, no matter where I am in life!

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

Fun Fact: I grew up believing that pageants were derogatory to women, and that they served no purpose besides showing off pretty outfits. I was 14 the first time I met a title holder, and after speaking to her and learning about her platform, I realized I had been closed minded towards what pageantry’s true purpose was. It was then I entered my first Rodeo Queen Pageant, where I found my confidence and voice to take my place in the world to become the role model I needed when I was younger.

I have no formal training in fine arts other than musicals in high school and playing the saxophone.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

Horseback riding of course! Mainly in jumping, dressage, and most recently, saddleseat.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

Leanne Tomanek has influenced me greatly in the past five years as a friend and as a mentor. She is the most supportive of this pageant journey and we have grown our equestrian business together as well as our relationship.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

Competing and winning at Arabian Canadian Nationals multiple different years with my own horse, and now watching students that I have taught and trained also competing and excelling at the same horse shows I have. #fullcircle

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

Getting accepted into this pageant is completely out of the norm for me as I spend my days in a horse barn. Although I have never done a pageant, I love being on stage and performing in front of an audience. The most interesting thing about me is my ability to get my hands dirty, then turn around, put some heels and a dress on and look like a completely different person.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

I would like to continue to build my lesson program and eventually become a competition coach specialist, and also help other riding instructors acquire their certification to maintain integrity of our sport.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

I would like to be a horseback riding instructor. Seeing as I’ve already accomplished that, Eventually I would like to own an equestrian facility.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I grew up with my parents and my older sister on our acreage 20 minutes from Tofield. In the summers we spent lots of time outside gardening with my Mom and Dad, looking for frogs with my sister, and playing with the dogs. I also remember going camping all the way up to the Yukon, Northwest Territories, northern BC and even Alaska. Our winters were spent tobogganing in the backyard and warming up inside by the fireplace in the home our Dad designed. By the age of 12 I was old enough to have a horse of my own, so a lot of my time was spent riding my horse and going on adventures with her and my few friends.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

Although I’ve always been invested with horses and animals, I did take a year to work as an Educational assistant in a high school, working with students with diverse needs. I really enjoyed my time working with kids and they always manage to put a smile on my face. It wasn’t exactly unusual, but very interesting!

List any volunteering you have done.

As a youth my spare time was spent rehabilitating horses in the Rescue 100 foundation.

What is your most unusual talent?

My ability to create different characters and personas was an awesome and creative way to get through the past few years and make lots of people laugh!

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

As a child I’ve visited some remote places in western and northern Canada, but one of my favorites was Liard Hot Springs. It’s a natural hot spring in northern BC. It’s about a 10-minute boardwalk from the campground, and the hot pools range in temperature. you can swim to the cooler water and see where the fresh water comes in, then move to the hot water for a relaxing soak and it’s all in the middle of a forest.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

I would like to still be riding horses and mentoring young instructors like me to keep the equestrian business alive.

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

I’m looking forward to this new experience and I would like to use this platform and publicity to assist, advocate and bring awareness for people experiencing houselessness and addiction.

I eagerly pursued various sports including badminton, swimming, snowboarding, and taekwondo, each of which presented its own unique set of challenges and rewards. Although I did not stick with any of them long enough to become a professional, each experience taught me valuable life lessons, such as the importance of perseverance and discipline.

The person who has had the most influence on my life, other than my parents, is my older sister, Woojeong. She has been a constant source of inspiration and support throughout my life. As a mentor, she has always been there to guide me through difficult times, offer advice, and share her own life experiences. As a friend, she is my confidant and ally, always willing to lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on. But most importantly, she is an incredible teacher, just like me. She has shown me the value of hard work, determination, and resilience, which has helped me in my own teaching career. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

The most interesting thing about me is my bold decision to leave my comfort zone and pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a teacher and children’s book author and illustrator. In 2019, I packed up everything and moved from the prairies of Saskatchewan to the bustling city of British Columbia, leaving behind my family, friends, and all that was familiar. This was a significant transition for me, as it was my first time living on my own and in a new city. However, despite the challenges that came my way, I persisted and persevered, and the experience was truly transformative. These experiences helped me develop my independence, self-reliance, and resilience as I navigated the unfamiliar territory. Moreover, this experience has broadened my perspectives and taught me to embrace diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of my life. I have become a more well-rounded individual, equipped with the skills and knowledge to tackle any challenges that come my way. I am grateful for this opportunity, and I am excited to see where this journey takes me next.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

As a teacher who aspires to be a children’s book author and illustrator, my career ambition is to publish a series of children’s books that will inspire young readers to explore new ideas, celebrate diversity, and foster a love for reading. Last year, I have created a writing group with like-minded individuals who have been a valuable resource in my journey. We share our work, critique each other’s writing, and offer support and encouragement to stay motivated throughout the publishing process. It’s amazing to be surrounded by people who understand the struggles and joys of creating stories that inspire others.

In addition to the writing group, I have also been actively building my author and illustrator brand by regularly posting my work on Instagram. I have been able to build a following of people who are interested in my stories and eagerly await the release of my books.

Finally, I am actively pursuing publication by submitting my manuscript to numerous publishers. Although it can be a challenging and competitive process, I am confident that my hard work and dedication will pay off and my dream of becoming a published children’s author and illustrator will become a reality.

I was born in South Korea and moved to Canada in grade three. Despite my parents running a busy restaurant for the majority of my childhood, they always made sure that I had everything I needed and supported my interests. As a family, we loved going on road trips and camping adventures, creating many cherished memories together. These experiences helped shape my love for travel and exploration.

Additionally, my parents were not only involved but heavily invested in the Regina Korean Association, serving as its president for five years. As a result, I was also involved in various cultural events and activities, such as being a Korean language instructor and hosting Korean cultural events. These experiences allowed me to engage with my heritage in a meaningful way and gave me a deeper appreciation for my roots. Overall, these experiences instilled in me a sense of pride in my cultural background and a desire to continue exploring and learning about my roots.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

One of the most interesting jobs that I have had was visiting numerous elementary schools to educate students about Korean culture. I took this opportunity to showcase the beautiful Korean traditional attire of hanbok by wearing it every time. The experience was not only enjoyable but also gratifying, as I had the privilege to impart my knowledge and love for my culture. Some of the lessons I taught included writing their name in Korean and introducing and teaching K-pop dance moves. Witnessing their curiosity and excitement toward the culture was heartwarming and inspiring, making it an unforgettable and profound experience for me.

Another interesting job I have was being a background actress. I was able to immerse myself in the world of filmmaking and gain an exclusive insight into the dynamic processes involved in bringing a movie to life. One of the highlights of this experience was the opportunity to meet and interact with a diverse range of talented actors and actresses who brought the script to life in their own unique ways. To top it off, the movie in which I was involved is set to be released on my birthday, which has left me feeling incredibly excited and eagerly anticipating the chance to watch it all come together on the big screen.

List any volunteering you have done.

I have previously served as a Korean language instructor and held leadership positions in both the Korean Student Association and the Regina Korean Association. Currently, I am also privileged to be involved in a volunteer opportunity with BeaYOUtiful Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing young girls with empowering mentorship, programs, and events that promote positive self-image and confidence-building. My most unusual talent is I can strut walk backwards on my roller skates!

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

During my backpacking trip in Myanmar, I had the pleasure of visiting the ancient city of Bagan – one of the most interesting places I have ever been to. The landscape was adorned with countless abandoned temples and religious sites, leaving me in awe of the country’s rich history and culture. However, what truly made my visit to Myanmar exceptional was the warmth and hospitality of the local people. I was touched by their kind gestures, whether it was the guidance and advice offered by a friendly stranger or a simple smile that made me feel at home. The genuine sense of hospitality and openness of the people of Myanmar left a lasting impression on me.

Height: 5’7
Hometown: Vancouver, BC
Languages: English, Mandarin
Occupation: Youth Support Worker

“Nothing is impossible” – this is the life creed of twenty-year-ago Iris Yu.

Growing up, Iris overcame many challenges that were believed “impossible”: survived from congenital heart disease, adapted to a completely different society, stood up against bullies, started a business, worked two jobs while being a full-time student, became financially independent since adulthood, competed in pageants, etc. The core of her success in overcoming challenges is to develop a resilient mindset. With the belief that effort makes a difference, she persistently works toward her goal until achieved. Iris would like to empower youth and women in similar situations to dream impossible dreams, turn thoughts into actions, and build their brightest future with their hands.

Iris volunteers as a crisis service responder to provide emotional support and intervention strategies to people with suicidal thoughts. As a victim of bullying, Iris experienced mental health concerns at a young age but luckily recovered with the support of professionals. She advocates the importance of self-help because having the awareness to seek help is the most critical and beneficial step to prevent traumatic events at an early stage. She conducts free virtual workshops to share coping strategies, stress management skills, and support resources with her community.

Iris is pursuing a double major degree in psychology and speech science at the University of British Columbia. She is an experienced youth educator who helps children with challenging behaviors adapt to the school and community. She hopes to apply her study to children with special needs to help them build a bright future.
What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

My lifelong passion is performing. Whether singing, dancing, or acting, being able to perform on stage and present myself is the most enjoyable hobby to me. I am interested in raising awareness for women’s mental well-being. Due to genetic factors and societal pressure/expectations that have been put on women, women are three times more vulnerable in developing common mental health problems compared to men. We need to pay more attention to young girls during puberty, new moms during pregnancy and postpartum, and women during menopause. Those are the critical periods in women’s lives that are making them even more vulnerable in developing mental health problems and committing suicide or self-harm.

My proudest personal accomplishment is making to the finalist of Miss Chinese Vancouver 2022. It was my first pageant and a remarkable life experience. I am currently pursuing a BA degree in psychology and planning to pursue a MEd in clinical counselling to be qualified as a clinical counsellor. I am working part-time as an administrative staff in a private clinic to gain experience about running a business in the healthcare field. I am also volunteering at a crisis helpline to gain practical experience in counselling.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

To me, dream job is making a positive impact in others’ life. As a pageant contestant, I hope to inspire girls like me to not letting others’ opinions stop you from chasing what you want. Whether that’s managing stress, gaining confidence, intervening crisis, or treating disorders, anything that I could help them to improve on will make an impact in their life, small or big. She has a passion for music teaching herself to sing and play basic guitar from an early age, she plays some sports such as soccer and softball, she enjoys modelling, and of course pageantry.
She is very proud to be the first mother to ever compete in MUC, she feels being a mother has helped her confidence level grow dramatically, not entering her first pageant until after her daughter was born because before until then she never felt confident enough to compete or leave her comfort zones. She had her second child in 2017, a son, she is now a mother of two and a wife.

Dealing with mental health issues early in her childhood she felt she needed to learn more about them and became and advocate for mental health. Offering a helping hand to people with the same issues, she has opened up more with her story in hopes it will help someone else reach out and get help.
After high school she studied aesthetic’s and became a nail technician opening her own business in 2015 and fully operating alone to this day. Just recently adding jewellery making to her business.

She loves to volunteer with her children’s activities and using her Aesthetic skills such as visiting the long term care unit at her local hospital monthly and doing the nails of the elderly that are living there. She loves the joy and happiness it brings to their lives.

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

I enjoy reading, writing songs and poems, learning new instruments, and learning new languages. I also like to play sports like basketball with my friends and family. I like doing activities that are outdoors, especially those that allow me to connect with nature, like hiking. The thing that fulfils me the most is using my gift of being able to connect with people and being a life coach to those who need encouragement and motivation. I like being able to do public speaking and to help encourage people of all ages, but especially the youth.

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

I got keyboard lessons when I was 12 years old. I have also been part of choirs, and I like to write poetry as well as paint. When I was doing my undergraduate degree at York University, I took contemporary dance as one of my practicums.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

As a student in the Specialized Honours program in Kinesiology and Health Science at York University, I was required to participate in eight different sports and physical activities in order to graduate. I participated in basketball, volleyball, tennis, cricket, badminton, and ultimate frisbee. I also did contemporary dance, track and field, javelin throw, shot put, and tai chi.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

A person that I will always admire is Princess Diana. She was not only beautiful on the outside, but she also had a pure and giving heart. She spoke up about important causes and helped break stigmas around conditions like HIV/AIDS. She viewed people with compassion and was more focused on being others-centered. She left such a lasting impact on the world that even today, people think of her in a very positive and loving light. I believe everybody comes into the world with a purpose, and the root of having a purpose-based life is to serve other people using our unique talents. Leaving a legacy behind is not just about what personal achievements a person has acquired; it is also about what we did for others and how strongly we were able to change other people’s lives in a positive way.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

My proudest personal accomplishment is writing my book, which is an autobiography. I wrote down all the life lessons that I’ve learned so far. Writing this book is me walking in my purpose and using my gift of uplifting others to help make a positive difference in other people’s lives. I am also the first person in my family to complete a university degree, and I am in the process of completing another degree.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

The most interesting thing about me is my optimism. Anyone I have ever spoken to always tells me that I am very resilient and optimistic. They ask me how I am able to see the silver lining in every situation. I think this quality is essential, and it helps me to be able to assist others when I am coaching them, as well as when I am working in teams or in leadership positions. It also helps me and the people around me to continually feel motivated and inspired.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

Currently, my career ambition is to complete my nursing degree and work as a nurse or as a nursing instructor. I am in my second year of nursing at Centennial College, and I will be graduating next year. Apart from completing nursing, my first career ambition has always been to win Miss Universe because it will allow me to use my voice to be a role model for others and use my gifts to make an impact in people’s lives. I am working towards this goal by participating in this pageant. I hope to win Miss Universe Canada so that I can go on to participate in Miss Universe and represent Canada on a global stage.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

My dream job would be to become a fashion designer and create modest clothing. From what I’ve seen while scrolling on social media, a lot of ladies, including myself, struggle to find dresses that are more modest. I support women wearing whatever makes them feel confident, but I also feel women should be empowered to wear modest clothing if that’s what they like and if that’s what makes them feel most confident. I have done some research into this and have not found a lot of brands that are specifically catered to it. So my dream is to one day have my own clothing line of modest dresses and outfits.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was born in Lahore, Pakistan, and my family and I moved to Kuwait when I was a baby. I lived in Kuwait for 12 years before I moved to Canada. I have lived in Canada for almost 13 years now. My childhood years were spent in the Middle East, and I moved to Canada when I was 12 years old. Growing up, my family had a very social lifestyle. We have a big family back in Pakistan, and I have a lot of cousins there. I have fond memories of my childhood; however, I have experienced many challenges and struggles during my teenage years because I was bullied a lot in high school. My life experiences are the reason why I am so active as a life coach and a motivational speaker. I am grateful that we have a lot of resources in Canada when it comes to having a voice and having opportunities for personal growth. I remember attending a lot of assemblies in high school where people raised awareness regarding bullying and were given resources as to who they could reach out to in order to talk about what they were experiencing. I feel really blessed to call Canada my home, and I am grateful for all the tools and opportunities I am provided to be able to reach my highest potential here, especially as a woman.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

I find my current job really interesting, as I get to work with older people and listen to the residents share their life experiences and stories with me. I also worked as a part-time tutor for 4 years when I was a student at York University. That job was also very interesting to me because I love children, and I got the chance to work with children of different age groups (kindergarten to grade 12). My job experiences have allowed me to work with people of various ages and backgrounds, and I have learned so much from them.

List any volunteering you have done.

I have volunteered at local elementary schools as well as at religious organisations. I have helped with Sunday school activities, including preparing lessons and delivering them in a fun and engaging way. During Christmas time, I would help the church prepare Christmas boxes to send to people who were in need of clothes and food.

What is your most unusual talent?

My most unusual talent is being able to hear two conversations simultaneously. I’ve surprised friends in the past when I replied to one group of friends while I was already talking to another group of friends. I can also write poems about any given topic on the spot, and I have won first prizes in poetry writing for poems that I have written on the spot.

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

I haven’t yet gotten the chance to travel much. But in the near future, I would love to travel to different parts of the world. I love learning about different cultures, and I feel that every person can share a unique story and experience with others. The most interesting place that I have been to so far is the village where my mother grew up. It shows me the struggles that parents go through to be able to provide a safe and healthy life for their children. My family has gone through a lot, and I want to make them and Canada proud by winning Miss Universe Canada.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In ten years, I hope to be married, have four kids, and also have a toy poodle. I would also like to have my own farm, be able to have horses on the farm, and look after the horses. I wish to continue inspiring people, and I hope to write more books. I want to travel and be able to explore different countries. I want to help women in less fortunate countries and empower young boys and girls to go after their dreams. I want to emphasise the importance of education, and I want to encourage people to use their natural gifts and talents and embrace their unique qualities. I want to help continue breaking stigmas around mental illnesses like depression and anxiety, which are still considered taboo topics in some communities. A lot of people suffer from these conditions, and I want them to know that their condition does not define them and that they are capable of achieving anything that they want.

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

As someone who is deeply passionate about helping myself and others live happy, healthy lives, I am constantly seeking new ways to inspire and motivate those around me. My love for exercise, weight training, cooking, and hiking stems from a burning desire to help people unlock their full potential, both physically and mentally. There’s nothing quite like the invigorating rush of a challenging hike, as I get to explore and soak in the breathtaking beauty of Canada’s natural landscapes. With every step, I feel a sense of connection to the world around me and a renewed appreciation for the wonders of nature. And it’s not just about the physical activity – hiking is a chance to clear my mind, reflect on my goals, and push myself to new heights, both figuratively and literally. Whether it’s the sense of renewed peace from a hike, the satisfying burn of a weight training session, or the nourishing goodness of a nutritious meal, I am dedicated to empowering others to take control of their health and wellness. I know firsthand the transformative power of these activities, and I’m committed to sharing that passion with the world. So let’s lace up our hiking boots, fire up the stove, and get moving towards a happier, healthier future – together!

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

I have a diverse background in both culinary arts and personal training, having been in a culinary arts program in high school and then working as a line cook in four different restaurants. Cooking has always been a passion of mine, and I loved learning about different cuisines and experimenting with new flavors and techniques. However, I also became interested in fitness and wellness, which led me to pursue a career as a personal trainer. For over five years now, I have been helping others achieve their fitness goals by creating personalized workout plans and providing guidance and motivation. It’s been a rewarding experience to see my clients make progress and feel better about themselves. Ultimately, my passion for cooking and personal training stems from the same desire to help others live a happy and healthy life, and I hope to continue pursuing both in the future.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

I am incredibly proud to have been an on scholarship varsity volleyball player at Trinity Western University for five years. During my time on the team, I had the privilege of serving as the captain and leading my fellow players to great success, including three division titles. Being part of such a dedicated and talented group of athletes was truly an honor, and I will always cherish the memories and lessons I learned on the court. From grueling practices to thrilling games, every moment was a testament to the power of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance. And even though my time as a varsity athlete has come to an end, I continue to carry those values with me in all aspects of my life. Whether I’m tackling a tough project at work or pushing myself to new heights in my personal goals, I know that the lessons I learned as a varsity volleyball player will always be a part of who I am.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

My professor of Adapted Physiology, Sarah Moore, had a profound impact on my life by opening my eyes to the inequalities that the disabled community faces in recreation and physical education classrooms. Taking her class not only ignited a passion within me to advocate for equal access to recreational facilities, but it also inspired me to educate teachers on inclusion in physical education classrooms. That’s why I founded my non-profit organization called “The Accessible Movement Association”, which has provided over 60 sessions to educate the visually impaired and blind community on how to work out and give them a safe space to create a healthy relationship with exercise. I am passionate about making a positive change in the lives of those who have been overlooked or marginalized, and my work with The Accessible Movement Association is just the beginning of my efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable world. I am grateful to Professor Moore for sparking this passion within me and providing me with the tools and knowledge to make a difference in the lives of others.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

Starting my non-profit organization, “The Accessible Movement Association”, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Our mission is to secure equal access to recreational facilities for individuals with disabilities, and I am proud to say that we have already helped over 12 blind and visually impaired people in my community. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to teach at two different schools and share my knowledge and passion for inclusion in physical education classrooms with students and teachers alike. Now, as the CEO of The Accessible Movement Association, I am grateful to be able to devote my time and energy to this important work full-time. Every day, I am inspired by the resilience and strength of the people in our community and motivated to continue fighting for their rights to equal access to recreational facilities. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable world for all.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

Being a part of the blockbuster volleyball film “The Miracle Season” was an absolute dream come true! The experience was nothing short of incredible, and it was an honor to share the screen with such legendary actors as William Hurt, Helen Hunt, and Erin Moriarty. But what made this opportunity truly special was the chance to be a part of one of the first-ever female sports movies that received the same level of publicity and attention as men’s sports. It was an exhilarating feeling to know that we were part of a movie that inspired young women to pursue their dreams of playing sports and breaking down barriers. The impact of the film was palpable, and it was amazing to witness how it inspired young women to believe in themselves and what they could accomplish through sports. It was a truly unforgettable moment in the history of women’s sports, and I feel so blessed to have been a part of it!

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

I’m currently in the process of completing my Clinical Exercise Physiology Certification, which is a crucial step in my journey to growing “The Accessible Movement Association” into a national organization. I’m excited to add this certification to my already completed Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics, as it will help me to create more impactful programs and educational workshops. One of our main goals as an organization is to promote equal access to recreational facilities for individuals with disabilities, especially those who are visually impaired or blind. By providing educational workshops for municipality recreational centers, we hope to create a more inclusive environment that enables everyone to participate in recreational activities on an equal footing. It’s an important mission, and I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to make it a reality. With the knowledge and expertise gained from my Clinical Exercise Physiology Certification, I’m confident that we can take “The Accessible Movement Association” to the next level and help even more individuals with disabilities lead happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

Becoming a global advocate for equal rights for individuals who are blind and visually impaired is my dream job. This passion stems from my personal experience, where I was fortunate enough to receive optometry care as a child, preventing me from losing vision in one of my eyes. It breaks my heart to know that not everyone has access to the same resources and care that I did. According to the World Health Organization, there are currently 284 million visually impaired people worldwide, with 39 million being blind. Shockingly, 60% of blindness in the world can be cured, and 20% can be prevented. These statistics only reinforce my belief that fighting for equal access to optometry care and resources for those who are visually impaired is not just a cause, it’s a necessity.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was born in Canada but moved to New Zealand at the age of 2. I am the youngest of 4 siblings, with 2 older brothers and 1 older sister. I lived in New Zealand for 8 years, then moved back to beautiful Vancouver, Canada. I was lucky enough to have parents who instilled the importance of giving back to the global community. They showed me this by sending me on mission trips to Vanuatu, Albania, and Guatemala as a child. When arriving in Canada, I was extremely grateful to find a great community of kind people and quickly fell into sports, playing every sport that was accessible to me. I am grateful to have such loving and positive people around me. As the youngest in my family, I am eager to make a difference and be a positive force for change. I am an absolute social justice seeker with a passion for promoting optimism and equality in the world.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

Throughout my journey, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work as a line cook for four years, serve as a camp counselor, and coach volleyball for five years. These experiences have allowed me to grow both personally and professionally, and have instilled in me a deep passion for helping and guiding others towards their goals. As a line cook, I discovered the power of teamwork and the importance of dedication to excellence. As a camp counselor, I learned the value of leadership and the rewards of being a positive influence in the lives of others. And as a volleyball coach, I found joy in mentoring young athletes and helping them achieve their full potential. These experiences have helped me develop a strong sense of purpose and a desire to make a positive impact in the world.

List any volunteering you have done.

As a passionate advocate for the youth and those with disabilities, I have dedicated my time to several charitable organizations and community projects. I served as a spokesperson for “Foundry,” a charitable organization that helps at-risk youth access the resources they need to overcome the challenges they face. Together, we built a youth crisis center in my hometown of Langley, British Columbia, where youth can receive the support they need to achieve success. I also volunteered at the Special Olympics hockey team, where I facilitated practices and games for the athletes. Thanks to my dedication to community service, I was recognized with the Servant Leadership Award from my university. I’m proud to say that my work has been acknowledged by the mayors of Toronto, Langley Township, and Langley City, who have all expressed their gratitude for my contributions to the community.

What is your most unusual talent?

As a child, I used to play the trombone, much to the amusement of my friends who would joke that I was the coolest kid on the block with my brass instrument. But as I got older, I realized that playing guitar was way cooler and now I’m teaching myself how to play. I mean, let’s be real, who doesn’t want to strum a few chords and sing their heart out? Plus, now I can impress my friends with my musical prowess while also feeling like a rockstar. It’s never too late to pick up a new hobby, and I’m excited to see where my guitar skills will take me!

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

When I was younger, I had the opportunity to live in Vanuatu for three months with my father and his partner, who was building a malaria ward at their hospital. While there, I was able to explore the beautiful landscape and culture of the country, including snorkeling with stunning aquatic life and standing on the edge of an active volcano as it was erupting. It was an incredible experience that taught me the importance of respecting Mother Nature and the beautiful wonders the earth holds. I was also able to assist my dad’s partner in setting up the malaria ward, which was a humbling experience that instilled in me the value of helping others in need.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In the next 10 years, my ultimate goal is to leave a lasting impact on the world by raising awareness about the inequalities faced by the blind and visually impaired communities. As a Canadian, I aim to represent my country on the world stage and demonstrate how Canada is taking a lead in addressing this critical issue. I believe that I have the potential to be a powerful force for good, and I am committed to doing everything in my power to make a meaningful difference in the world. Through my work with the Accessible Movement Association and other organizations, I hope to inspire others to join me in this fight for equality and help create a brighter future for all.

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

As a participant in the Miss Universe Canada competition, I am thrilled to have this incredible opportunity to showcase my passion for advocating for the blind and visually impaired communities. My goal is to be the transformational leader that the organization is seeking, by raising awareness of the issues that these communities face and working towards finding solutions to address them. I believe that my personal experiences, education, and passion make me the perfect candidate to represent Canada and make a positive impact on the world. I am excited to use this platform to amplify my voice and bring attention to the causes that matter most to me. I am confident that I can inspire others to join me in creating a better future for all.
